Position Title: HSE Supervisor I
Reports to: HSE Manager
Position Status: Temporary
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Gonzalez, Louisiana
Work Schedule: 6 days a week-12 hr shifts. Day shift and night shift needed.
Purpose: Provides leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of the assigned project. The HSE Supervisor I is responsible for providing advice and a resource to field supervisors, foremen, and workers in all matters related to Health and Safety. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe work environment for all project employees, sub-contractors, and visitors.
- Provide HSE support and direction to all site personnel.
- Participate and assist in the investigation of incidents to determine cause.
- Establish what is required to eliminate any possible reoccurrence of an incident in the future.
- Ensure safety obligations with clients are carried out per the clients’ terms and communicated to Site Supervision.
- Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.
- Ensure that the necessary HSE material is onsite (i.e. HSE Manual, the applicable OH&S legislation and regulations, site safety inspection forms, etc.)
- Ensure that incident reports are sent to the HSE Supervisor II as soon as possible.
- Ensure that safety meetings are held on a regular basis. These will be daily or depending on the expectations of the client and the expectations of the Corporate HSE Director.
- Ensure that audits and inspections are performed per the inspection schedule.
- Communicate any significant issues or concerns with the HSE Supervisor II for direction.
- Communicate and assist workers to ensure that all safety expectations are met.
- Submit weekly reports over site safety performance indicators.
- Acts as a champion for special HSE programs such as BBS Observations (T.I.P), Extra Hazardous Work, etc.
- Manage client expectations and negotiate toward successful and positive results when issues arise.
- Facilitate ongoing communications with the client and ensure responsiveness to issues/requests.
- Provide direction and support to ensure compliance with company-established policies and procedures, as well as those outlined by clients.
- Indirectly supervise the work and safety practices of various craftsmen in an industrial setting.
- Determine training needs of craft personnel and assist them in obtaining that training.
- Monitor crew fatigue.
- Follow oral and written directions.
- Work within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge concerning Process Safety, Lockout/Tagout, and First Line Breaks.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in petrochemical construction safety.
- At least two (2) years of excavation safety experience.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and operation of iPad tablets
- Ability to be in the field with the workforce 95% of the day or per HSE Manager or clients’ requirements

Environment: Working conditions encountered in this job include those found in a typical office setting as well as an indoor/outdoor manufacturing setting which includes exposure to outside weather conditions, work at elevated heights, climbing of stairs and ladders, and physical manipulation of tools and mechanical equipment. This job demands the use of typical manufacturing personal protective equipment as well as advanced protective equipment as needed.
